The best first AI automation for a Sri Lankan SME is one narrow workflow with clear inputs, clear rules, and a measurable business outcome. Do not start by trying to automate the whole company.
Good first workflows include repeated customer questions, missed WhatsApp enquiries, report drafting, document intake, form-to-CRM updates, appointment reminders, and internal knowledge search.
Good First AI Projects
| Workflow | Why it works |
|---|---|
| FAQ chatbot | Known questions, known answers, easy handoff |
| WhatsApp lead capture | Reduces missed enquiries and collects structured details |
| Internal knowledge search | Staff can find policies, prices, and SOPs faster |
| Report drafting | AI drafts the first version from known data |
| Form routing | Enquiries go to the right person automatically |
What Not to Automate First
Avoid high-risk decisions, legal or medical advice, financial commitments, and anything where wrong answers could harm a customer. Start with assistive workflows, not unsupervised decisions.
Safe AI Automation Checklist
