The reality

English-only is leaving 70% of Sri Lanka on the table.

These are the patterns we see in nearly every Sri Lankan business website we audit, regardless of industry. The fix is real native writing — and it pays off.

1

English-only sites filter out 70% of your audience

Sri Lanka has ~22M people. About 75% search Google in Sinhala or Tamil first, English second. Diaspora customers in Toronto, London, Sydney also default to their first language. An English-only site is invisible to most of your real market.

2

"Trilingual" agencies use Google Translate — Google penalizes it

Google explicitly demotes machine-translated content in search results since 2022. Sites built with WPML auto-translate or copy-paste from translate.google.com lose ranking. Real native writing is the only path to ranking in Tamil and Sinhala SERPs.

3

Bad multilingual setups break SEO and confuse browsers

Missing hreflang, broken language switchers, duplicate-content penalties, browsers showing the wrong language by default — these are the silent reasons most "multilingual" Sri Lankan sites get less than 1,000 monthly visits per language.

How it works

Four weeks. Native writers per language. Live and indexed in 30 days.

  1. 01

    Strategy (Week 1)

Keyword research per language — Tamil and Sinhala have different search intent than English. We build a per-language content map and confirm your priority audiences.

  2. 02

    Native writing (Week 2)

A Tamil writer drafts your Tamil pages. A Sinhala writer drafts your Sinhala pages. An English writer drafts the English. No cross-translation. Then a senior editor reviews each language for tone and SEO.

  3. 03

    Build (Week 3)

Proper Next.js or WordPress i18n architecture, hreflang tags on every page, language switcher with visible flags, locale-aware metadata, and per-language sitemap entries.

  4. 04

    Launch & verify (Week 4)

Submit per-language sitemaps to Google Search Console, verify hreflang in Google's URL Inspection tool, and watch the first 30 days of Tamil + Sinhala indexing.

Pricing

Native writing isn't cheap — but cheaper than losing 70% of your audience.

Every package includes hosting setup, SSL, hreflang verification, per-language sitemaps, and 30 days of post-launch tuning at no extra charge.

FAQ

Trilingual website questions, answered

What is wrong with Google Translate or WPML auto-translation?
Google explicitly demotes machine-translated content in search rankings since 2022. The translations are also linguistically off — Tamil and Sinhala have idioms, syntax, and search intent that English-trained translators miss. Customers can tell within the first paragraph that a site is auto-translated, which kills trust. Real native writing is the only path to ranking and converting in non-English SERPs.
How do you actually write in three languages — translation or originals?
Each language gets its own native writer. The English copy is drafted first, then a Tamil writer reads the English brief and writes Tamil from scratch (not word-by-word translation). A Sinhala writer does the same for Sinhala. A senior editor in each language reviews for tone, SEO keywords, and accuracy. This is more work than Google Translate but it is the difference between ranking and not ranking.
Will SEO work for all three languages?
Yes. We do separate keyword research for each language because Tamil and Sinhala searches have completely different patterns than English. For example, Sri Lankans search "හෝටල් රත්නපුරේ" not literal English translations. Each language gets its own metadata, sitemap, schema, and Search Console property. Indexing is verified per-language within 30 days.
How does the language switcher work?
A visible language switcher in the top-right corner with full language names (English / தமிழ் / සිංහල) — not flag icons (flags = countries, not languages). Browser auto-detects on first visit, user choice persists in cookies, and direct links to /ta/ and /si/ work for sharing. Users never get stuck on the wrong language.
What is hreflang and why does it matter?
hreflang is the HTML tag that tells Google "this page exists in 3 versions — show the right one to each user". Without it, your Tamil and Sinhala pages compete with each other for the same keywords (duplicate content penalty), or Google shows a Sinhala page to a Tamil searcher. Setting it up correctly is fiddly — most agencies skip it. We always set it up and verify it via Google Search Console.
Can we add new pages later in all 3 languages?
Yes. The Trilingual Growth and Premium packages include a CMS workflow where you write a page in English, then we route it to our Tamil and Sinhala writers for native copy. Typical turnaround is 3-5 working days per page. You also get an AI-assisted translation review tool so your own team can publish quick updates without waiting.
Should the URLs use /ta/ subfolders or ta.example.com subdomains?
Subfolders (example.com/ta/, example.com/si/). Reasons: (1) the parent domain authority transfers to language pages, (2) easier hreflang setup, (3) one Search Console property to manage, (4) Google explicitly recommends it for multi-region single-language sites. Subdomains are the wrong choice 95% of the time and waste link equity.
Is trilingual really worth 3× the writing work and cost?
For Sri Lankan businesses serving local + diaspora audiences, yes — the math is simple. English-only typically caps you at ~25% of the addressable market. Adding Tamil unlocks Northern Province + 3M diaspora globally. Adding Sinhala unlocks ~75% of the domestic market. We have seen sites move from 200 monthly organic visits to 1,400+ within 6 months of going trilingual.
